About the ORF

The Oceanic Research Foundation is a registered, non-profit organisation with an impressive record of achievements in the field of marine research and in Antarctica. It was founded in 1977 and is dedicated to promoting and encouraging the preservation of Australian maritime resources, ecology and environment.

The Foundation is administered by a Board of Directors, with day to day management carried out by an Executive Director. Implementation of the Foundation’s Charter is based on the participation of volunteers, sponsors, maritime scientists and specialists.

The Foundation has undertaken five expeditions to the Antarctic since its inception and has a considerable body of sea-going and Antarctic experience and expertise within its ranks. In particular, Fellows of the Foundation Don Richards (President) and Colin Putt FRGS (Past President) are veterans of the Antarctic.
